How Tax Optimiser billing works

What companies and accountant firms pay for in Tax Optimiser: per-period fees or credits for year-end filing, and a subscription for VAT and MTD.

What you pay depends on two things: whether you are a company filing for itself or an accountant firm filing for clients, and which part of Tax Optimiser you use. Year-end filing (accounts and Corporation Tax) is charged per filing. VAT and Making Tax Digital for Income Tax are a subscription. The two are billed separately.

Year-end filing: one charge per period

For accounts and Corporation Tax you pay once for an accounting period, and that payment covers:

  • the CT600 to HMRC and the accounts to Companies House;
  • every attempt, if a submission is rejected and has to be sent again;
  • amended returns and amended accounts for that period.

Preparing is free. You can enter the trial balance, build the accounts and the computation and review every document without paying; the charge arises when you open the submission.

VAT and MTD for Income Tax: a subscription

VAT returns and quarterly MTD for Income Tax updates are covered by a subscription paid by card through Stripe.

  • A company or individual pays nothing for the first year, then £30 + VAT a year each. For VAT the year runs from the first return filed.
  • A firm has a 30-day trial, then pays monthly according to the number of clients it has.

The short version

How Tax Optimiser billing works — in brief

Year-end filing is charged per accounting period: a company pays 10 pounds + VAT (5 pounds if dormant), and a firm uses one credit.

One charge covers both the CT600 and the Companies House accounts, resubmissions and amendments. Preparing the accounts and computation is free.

VAT and MTD for Income Tax are a card subscription: free for a company's first year then 30 pounds + VAT a year; monthly for firms by number of clients.

Companies find billing under Settings; firms under Firm Settings, with Credits alongside.
